College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 8

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 8

Goodbyes are never easy.  In fact, I don’t think we were created to say them.  But when sin entered the world, it broke everything.  It fractured the permanency of relationships.  But instead of goodbye, I prefer see you later.  Because that is especially true when it comes to the life of a believer. Upon waking, you could sense something was different.  The same birds and early sunrise… there was a delightful breeze and a tropical smell in the air… but…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 7

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 7

There is nothing quite like Ruby’s House of Prayer.  Each team that I’ve lead down here has always made the pilgrimage to the community right outside of La Chureca (the dump that use to house residents and the Buzbee’s school) to go to Ruby’s for prayer.  It’s been a good few years since Ruby – a powerful woman of God – passed, but her legacy and ministry lives on. I challenged our team to go in with open hearts… ready…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 6

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 6

God’s faithfulness to our team is what we are continuing to celebrate.  From small areas to big – each of us are experiencing His presence and power.  Our morning times are crucial as we have time to start our day both individually and together as a team with God.  Today, we were praying that He would move in a mighty way. We invited all of our teenage campers back to Ruby Ranch and also asked them to invite their siblings…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 5

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 5

Today was a bittersweet day as it settled in on us that it was our last day of camp.  Even though we are pretty certain that we will continue to see the kids as we work at the Ranch, it’s been an awesome camp so far.  Our team has done a great job leading their areas and we finally have hit a good place in our relationships with the campers that makes it hard for camp to near it’s end….

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 4

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 4

God is doing a good work in and through our team!  It’s been really amazing to watch the unity of purpose and camaraderie that has been growing since we have been here! We all start our day pretty early, but enjoying the beauty of this place and some quiet moments with the Lord.  After breakfast and a team devotional, we loaded up the bus for the long journey to Ruby Ranch.  After a quick set up, we were excited to…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 3

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 3

We were a bit apprehensive as we stepped off the bus at Ruby Ranch this morning.  We passed some of the kids on the drive in and others were already gathering at the gate.  It was a nervous excitement as this was our first day of camp and our first ever teenage camp! They started to trickle in slowly and then had some latecomers.  We were expecting an even number for our division to two groups, but we ended up…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 2

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 2

Daytime starts early here in Nicaland. Maybe it’s the time zone or maybe it’s the birds (which always happen to be right by my window) or maybe it’s just coming off a full day of travel and being excited about the mission ahead.  But it’s so amazing to start the day with God’s Word and a cup of coffee in the beauty of our surroundings. The Lord’s Day is always something we look forward to down here. It’s a chance…

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 1

College Mission Nicaragua :: Day 1

For the second time this year, I’m privileged to be on the ground here in Nicaragua. This summer we had an awesome team of high school students and recent grads serving here.  And due to the overwhelming response, we had to push some off that team and launch a new team just for college students.  Many just finished their last exams yesterday and then woke up a 4-something this morning to hop on an early flight from Tallahassee to Nicaragua….

numbering the days

numbering the days

All throughout this journey, days have had major significance.  There have been monumental days – diagnosis day, surgery day, cast removal day as well as seemingly more mundane days. But I’m always reminded of what Scripture teaches us in Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”  Days are important and they aren’t guaranteed, but they are a gift.  We are admonished to number our days – to remember, cherish, celebrate and…
