Mission Nicaragua: Day 7

Mission Nicaragua: Day 7

We have crossed our halfway point of our mission here in Nicaragua.  At times it feels like we just landed but after a long days work, it feels like we have been here for months!  But God is good in the highs and lows and we have had plenty of both!   On the lows, we’ve had to leave a few behind the last few days to deal with a little 24-hour bug.  But the good news is, it doesn’t…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 6

Mission Nicaragua: Day 6

As a team we are learning to see God’s work all around us.  Learning to spot Him and hear His voice is easier, not simply because we are on mission here, but because our spiritual senses are more aware because of the minimal distractions.  I’ve been so encouraged to watch this team come together in unity, but even beyond the working, they are serving and ministering to one another.  It’s a great picture of the body of Christ.  As Ephesians…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 5

Mission Nicaragua: Day 5

You wouldn’t think we were in the rainy season, as a good majority of Nicaragua has been experiencing a drought.  But God sent the rains today.  It was such a blessing for the people here who have desperately needed it, but we benefited from the coolness after the rain and knocking down the dust on the roads we travel on.  It also gave us a respite from some hard work today.   Our team started strong by moving nearly 150…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 4

Mission Nicaragua: Day 4

Today was a very full day in so many ways.  We started by joining the nations in worship at Verbo Church.  It always gives us a glimpse of what heaven will be like when we experience worship in multiple languages.  We lifted our voices in Spanish and English and then were encouraged in God’s Word to fully rely on God as our Good Shepherd (Thanks Elizabeth for our translating to English for us).  The church experience really led to good…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 3

Mission Nicaragua: Day 3

God’s faithfulness continues to guide our team and we are finding ourselves more attune to the Holy Spirit and following His leading.  We do our best to plan and prepare but what I hope to pass along to our team is the importance of walking by faith and not by sight.  And I believe we are all getting a bit better in this area.  We ask three questions in our team time each night, but the most important being, “Where…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 2

Mission Nicaragua: Day 2

Today was our first full day here and it started early.  We were up and ready to go after our devotional time – headed out to Ruby Ranch for our first day of camp with the children of Las Parcelas.  We have been blessed to have been heavily invested in this community and worked with these children for a good few years.  So it was great to rekindle relationships and amok some new ones today.  We were able to craft…

Mission Nicaragua: Day 1

Mission Nicaragua: Day 1

Well here we are again… back in Nicaragua.  We arrived a day late due to mechanical issues on the plane.  But we all made it safe and sound  and are trusting God’s timing and plan for our team.  We had hoped to hit the ground running but ended up using the day to prep for the start of our camp tomorrow and also getting a bit of rest and relaxation in (since we had two up by 5am mornings in…

One Foot in Front of the Other

One Foot in Front of the Other

There are moments in this journey that take your breath away.  After being a bit nervous while his cast was being removed, there were moments of anticipation and excitement as he got to see his body (since the good majority of it has been covered… with his tough guy body armor) for the first time.  He looked down and felt around but was unsure if he could move.  After a quick scrub down, he able to put regular clothes on for the first…

The Roller Coaster Called Emotion

The Roller Coaster Called Emotion

Needless to say, this journey has been full of emotion.  Many times we have felt like we are on a roller coaster – at times in fear, hanging on with white knuckles and other times exuberant with joy.  There have been many tears shed and many smiles shared.  We definitely have experienced what Jesus meant in John 10:10 when He said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  I’ve always described this verse…

We Have a Date!

We Have a Date!

Talk about anticipation.  On Thursday, Cole went to have his one month post-operation x-ray.  This would be the x-ray that gave us either the news that the cast was ready to come off or we would have to wait longer… up to two more weeks.  Thursday couldn’t come fast enough, but really the waiting to hear from the doctor couldn’t come fast enough.   We had the x-ray overnighted to Dr. Killian in Birmingham.  We needed it to be read…
